What is a Blackboard?

A blackboard does not specifically refer to a black surface. Traditionally, it is a reusable flat surface, hard and commonly used for teaching. It can be black, dark green, or white.

Before the invention of writing, people discovered that charcoal could be used for drawing. Ancient murals can be found in some ancient caves in Europe, and the rock walls with these murals could traditionally be considered blackboards.

In ancient China, a sand tray was commonly used for teaching, where hard wood was used to write on the sand repeatedly. However, due to the softness of the sand, it cannot be considered a true blackboard.

During the Middle Ages, people discovered that mixing lime with water created a solid block. They wrote on dark, hard surfaces using methods similar to charcoal pens. By the 19th century, people painted wooden boards with black paint to protect them from erosion. Of course, the main purpose of blackboards at that time was not teaching; it only became popular in schools worldwide by the mid-19th century.

Over the past two hundred years, blackboards have evolved from being merely painted black on wooden or cement surfaces to the glass and composite materials we see in the 1990s, and now to painted steel plates... witnessing the gradual development of global education. They have played a significant role in spreading knowledge and popularizing education. Greenboards

Greenboards have a dark green surface and are written on with chalk, which is not harsh on the eyes and helps protect vision; whiteboards have a white surface and are usually written on with various water-based markers.

Painted steel boards use high-quality alloy steel plates coated with a wear-resistant layer, with a thickness of 0.3mm-0.4mm. They are durable, do not peel or fade, and last long. Writing feels good, with clear markings, easy to write and erase, and generates minimal dust. Magnetic blackboards contain magnetic strips or particles on the surface, allowing for easy attachment of small teaching tools or images using magnets. Multifunctional combination boards, interactive electronic whiteboards, and projection screen boards are a combination of traditional blackboards and modern technology, supplementing traditional teaching defects with electronic whiteboards, projectors, computers, and corresponding teaching software and hardware. Music blackboards are used for music applications. As the name suggests, these blackboards are called music blackboards, developed by Soviet scientists into a type of singing blackboard. This blackboard has musical notes drawn on it. When a music teacher uses a pointer to touch these notes, the blackboard emits sounds consistent with those notes. If a piece of music is written on the blackboard, when the pointer touches the notes of that music, the music blackboard plays a beautiful song.


Water Erasable Blackboards (Dust-Free Blackboards)

Traditional blackboards use chalk, which creates a lot of dust and negatively impacts the health of teachers and students. Switching to dust-free blackboards, used with non-toxic, eco-friendly markers and water wipes, can resolve this issue permanently.

When using water erasable blackboards with special water erasable chalk, dampen the dedicated eraser before use, or prepare a wet cloth. It's very easy to wipe away the writing, just like cleaning a table with a cloth, without the need for strenuous back-and-forth wiping. Even with the board wet, water erasable chalk can still be easily applied, making it incredibly simple and convenient to avoid the hassle of chalk dust.
