NTSC = National Television Standards Committee

Established by the American National Television System Committee

  1. Displays 30 frames per second through 525 horizontal scan lines.
  2. When using interlaced scanning, displays 60 fields per second with half the resolution.

PAL = Phase Alternation Line

Phase Alternation System

  1. Uses 625 horizontal scan lines and displays 25 frames or 50 fields per second with interlaced scanning.
  2. Vertical resolution is higher than NTSC, but the frame rate is relatively lower.
